Party Planning Guide

How to Throw a Dinosaur-Themed Birthday Party for Kids

Prices are accurate as of the time of writing and may have changed since — always double-check before buying.

A dinosaur theme is one of the most forgiving party themes to pull together — green and brown go with almost anything, and the activities practically plan themselves (digging, roaring, stomping around). This guide is split into the three things you actually need to plan: how to decorate the room, what to have kids do once they're there, and what to send home with them.

1. Decorating the Room

Start with the tableware set — it covers plates, cups, napkins, and a banner in one go — then layer in one or two bigger pieces like the balloon arch or the standing dinosaurs rather than trying to cover every wall.

Dinosaur Birthday Balloon Garland Arch Kit
Dinosaur Birthday Balloon Garland Arch Kit
$19.99 · on Amazon

The centerpiece — a full green-and-brown balloon garland arch with a dinosaur backdrop and foil "ROAR" letters built in, so the room reads as a real jungle scene rather than a few balloons taped to a wall. Good one to set up first and build the rest of the room around.

Dinosaur Balloons with Confetti (35-Piece Set)
Dinosaur Balloons with Confetti (35-Piece Set)
$8.89 · on Amazon

An easy add-on once the main arch is up — a mix of green tones with dinosaur silhouettes, tropical-leaf prints, and a "ROAR!" balloon, plus foil palm leaves to scatter in between. Cheap enough to fill extra corners of the room without a second big purchase.

Dinosaur Party Tableware Set (170 Pieces)
Dinosaur Party Tableware Set (170 Pieces)
$19.99 · on Amazon

Does the whole table in one purchase — plates, cups, napkins, cutlery, and a tablecloth, plus a "Happy Birthday" banner, all matching the same dinosaur-skeleton print. This is the one to buy first if you're only buying one thing; the rest of this list is what makes the room match the table.

Standing Dinosaur Balloons, 38-Inch (Set of 3)
Standing Dinosaur Balloons, 38-Inch (Set of 3)
$15.99 · on Amazon

Three floor-standing foil dinosaurs — T-Rex, Triceratops, and Stegosaurus — tall enough to actually anchor a corner of the room instead of getting lost among smaller decorations. No helium needed; they self-stand once inflated.

Dinosaur Camo Netting Backdrop with Warning Signs
Dinosaur Camo Netting Backdrop with Warning Signs
$27.99 · on Amazon

A different look from the usual balloon-and-banner setup — camouflage netting as a wall backdrop, hung with "Caution: Dinosaur" style warning signs, for a Jurassic-dig-site feel rather than a birthday-store one. Works well as a photo-wall alternative to the balloon arch.

Dinosaur Cupcake Stand (2-Tier, Set of 2)
Dinosaur Cupcake Stand (2-Tier, Set of 2)
$11.99 · on Amazon

Two cardboard 2-tier stands printed with a roaring T-Rex and jungle leaves — an easy way to make store-bought cupcakes look intentional without any actual baking or decorating skill required. Assembly is just slotting the tiers together.

Dinosaur Felt Masks (12 Styles)
Dinosaur Felt Masks (12 Styles)
$15.99 · on Amazon

12 different dinosaur designs, so a full group of guests can each wear a different one instead of everyone getting the same mask. Soft felt with an elastic band — sturdy enough for photos and play, and doubles as a quiet activity while guests are still arriving.

2. Activities & Games

Plan for roughly 45–60 minutes of guided activity total — kids this age lose interest faster than adults expect, so having two or three short options beats one long one. The picks below cover a no-setup option for early arrivals, a calmer activity for the middle, and one main event.

Giant Dinosaur Coloring Poster
Giant Dinosaur Coloring Poster
$8.99 · on Amazon

One big poster instead of a stack of small coloring sheets — several kids can crowd around and color different dinosaurs and volcanoes at once, plus a maze and word search built in for kids who finish coloring early. Good no-supervision activity for the arrival window.

T-Rex Dinosaur Piñata with Blindfold
T-Rex Dinosaur Piñata with Blindfold
$29.99 · on Amazon

A full T-Rex-shaped piñata with a blindfold and the fringed pull stick included, so it's a complete activity rather than needing to source the extras separately. Plan for this mid-party — it needs a bit of open space and adult supervision to run smoothly.

Dinosaur Bean Bag Toss Game
Dinosaur Bean Bag Toss Game
$10.99 · on Amazon

Zero setup beyond hanging or propping the board up — kids take turns tossing the four included bean bags at the numbered holes, no rules to explain beyond "highest score wins." A reliable option for early arrivals before the group is big enough for the piñata.

3. Party Favors for Guests

One thing per guest that's genuinely worth taking home beats five throwaway trinkets. The pick below is sized for a full guest list and doubles as its own mini-activity at pickup time.

Dinosaur Egg Excavation Dig Kit (24 Sets)
Dinosaur Egg Excavation Dig Kit (24 Sets)
$28.49 · on Amazon

24 individually wrapped dino eggs, each with a small dinosaur toy buried inside and a digging tool and magnifier included — a goodie-bag item guests actually get to do something with, not just unwrap and set aside. Works out to a little over $1 per guest for a full class or party list.
